day in the life (mega post)
I've seen other blogs do this, and I love it. Been meaning to do it for years.
Lately I've been feeling like such a liar, with all my pretty pictures. Trust me, it ain't pretty. I'm a miserable failure of a housewife when it comes to domestic duties (outside of cooking). Looking back at these I'm at first embarrassed at how boring it is, then proud of how simple and yet full, then again happy and in love with my life. A good exercise that I would recommend to all (just send me the link! I want to see!!).
Presenting: a day in the life. It's long. It's boring. Very tiring. Very happy.
--------
6:00 AM
Io's awake. Ready for action. First things first. All days start the same.
Make Fire, Make Coffee.

6:30 AM
Capture naked sprite. Pin down, get her dressed.
6:45 AM
Serenade. Perfect for pre-dawn.
7:00 AM
Start breakfast. Pancake mix from scratch. Just add an egg and milk. Used 1/2 oatmeal, 1/2 whole wheat flour, sugar, salt, leavening, cinnamon. Stored in a jar, scoop when whining escalates.
7:30 AM
Time to rouse the eldest.

Kisses from sis.
7:30 - 8:30 AM
Breakfast, dressing, mayhem, lunch making. Then out the door.
Daily props.

Some yelling about something.
Whew. We did it.
9:15 AM
Prize!
9:20 AM
Inspect winter garden & chickens.

10:00 AM
Walk the neighborhood, postoffice, library, check river, store.

Our town has lots of potholes.

Some library goodies.
The river is getting bigger, darker.

There is a salmon head stuck in a tree. Crows?
We adore our neighborhood market.

Starts raining. Trying to run with baby in backpack, bags, and books.
Some guys trying to give me a ride in his creepy white van.
Wet baby. Bad mama.
10:45 AM
Baby snack.

While she snacks, I clean the bathroom. Yes, I am going to show you our toilet. Why? Because it is fabulous. Leif's first purchase as a consumer.
11:00 AM
She naps! Yes! Milestone #2 for the day. Now the fun begins.
First, admire something I found.
Another awesome thing. Dishes and Laundry.

12:00 PM
Grown up snack time and lunch for Mama. Leif is home (thanks Dada).
1:00 PM
She's up!

Read some books, play some games.
Visitor at the window.
Move upstairs to do some cleaning. Water the lemon tree. She plays with the toilet paper while I vacuum. Victory!!

From upstairs I spy some workers outside.
Resting on Pica.
2:00 PM
Leif comes in to warm up and do some crafts. Sewing book bindings onto paper. He illustrates, narrates, and I write in the story for him.

Stoking the fire.
Sharing a book, getting warm.
2:30 PM
Snacks, more snacks.
Dada works.
3:00 PM
Mama and kids leave for the gym. I'm gonna skip this part, because trust me, it's not worthy. Even uglier than our toilet. What I will show are my new gym shoes that I gifted myself for working out for a month.
5:00 PM
Home again! Let's start our evening, shall we?
Radio on the TV. Loves it.
Leif drew a picture of a poisonous bush. No, not that one.
Cooking Dinner.

***damn rotten avocado.
5:45 PM
Ta Da!! Enchiladas. Paleo-okay.
Kid's version.
6:15 PM
Bathtime! A girl's favorite part of the day.

Chase her down, put on the clothes. SO MUCH screaming. Please, anyone have ideas on this one?

6:45 PM
Goof-off wind down.

7:15 PM
Io's off to bed. Leif's off to a Little Bear and last snack.

Little Bear sandwich. Macadamia nut butter and honey.
7:45 PM
Goodnight Little Bear. Hello Dishes.

9:00 PM
At last. Some tea. Some fire. Some slumber.

Thanks, Rach- I loved this. I miss those little nuggets like mad.
I love this. Looks like a great day. Beautiful photos!
Rachel - I know how you feel about accomplishing cooking and not much else when it comes to the life of a hausfrau. I love your day and your pictures. The kids are so grown-up and adorable. Lovely. ~Sacha
Wonderful view of your life!! Inspiring and tiring all in one!
I love looking at your blog Rachael! What a beautiful family you have!
Maybe IO can come to Cedars when she's old enough!
This is awesome! It's so nice to see what peoples lives actually look like! Thanks for doing this, I will totally follow suit soon. :)
brilliant photos and love what your day looks like. Very wholesome and real. Who cares about doing too much housework when you've got puddles to jump in and rivers to look at and children to play with. You're living the life.
Thanks for stopping by Kate!
Let's see it!
That would be so fun! Only 2 more years! Sigh...
Thanks Sacha! It seems like we just go from meal to snack to meal around here.
How do you sew the book? Instructions anywhere online?
Very simple :) Fold 3 pieces of 8.5 x 11 in half length wise. Sew down the margin with a zig zag stitch. You might need to use a new needle and loosen the tension a little. I think I'll do a post on this!
Thanks for peeking in Rob! I was totally inspired by your domestic facebook shots.
Leif could use some Tita love.
As always, lovely photos! I was just thinking the other day that I wished you'd share more of what your life is like, and what you are all about. Thanks for giving me a sneak peek. I loved your humor, and I am totally loving Leif's long, curly hair. I'm with you, housework is mundane and monotonous. Thank goodness for a little spice in our lives. Thanks again for sharing.
Very cool Rachel. Love Nats.
thank you so much!
